Managed to get some pictures of this beautiful costume X 2 for a duet before the girls tried them on. These are for Spotlight and are classical cancan costumes. Double skirt with 6 layers of gathered chiffon, wavy edge. Each layer took 1 hour to sew ! ( 12 hours !!) Lined leotard base, gathered front and back, puff sleeve. What a lovely busy day, our last 2 pointe fittings were brother and sister Nicole and Kye who both dance at TIMMS It is so lovely to see the boys come for their pointe shoes. I fitted a Grishko 2007 as I felt kye would benefit from the three quarter shank and supportive box. Nicole felt supported In the RC32. A lot of costumes are very labour intensive and this duet is no exception ! This is the under layer which has to be hand measured for the frills, homework was attaching pre machined frills ( 32 cut pieces) and starting the wavy edge process before the top skirt is attached. I have already made the leotard/ corset base thankfully. What a lovely fitting this morning for Bailey, ( new to us) Unfortunately the pointe shoes Bailey had were very water damaged as you can see 😳 After assessment we could see her present pointe shoes ( one wasn't as badly damaged as the other) was holding her back across the metarsal heads causing a buckled S shape when en pointe and teetering back on the edge of the platform because the vamp was too high. Bailey has wider feet but shorter toes which can take longer to fit because you need a shorter vamp but longer wings to support the toe joints. The Grishko STAR POINTE in this case looked beautiful and Bailey was able to fully use her new shoes. All appliques have to be very carefully stitched onto the top fabric before the lining is placed and any finishing work is done. Although sometimes I can machine stitch parts most of the time because of sequins and beads they have to be hand stitched and this is after the patterns are worked out and cut. Another full pointe shoe fitting day and we could have done more but there comes a point when your brain stops working ! we are working 7 days a week at the moment to fit every one in and we are up to our ears in making costumes but we love it ( copious amounts of tea helps) We had some lovely dancers today some new to pointe, some new to us. This lovely young lady from Spotlight was previously fitted with a Bloch European Balance in a XX Unfortunately she didn't feel there was enough support ( the shank had bent too low down ) also the shoes were holding her back because they were way too narrow across the metatarsals hence the creased collapsed front. Danielle did an absolute sterling job again today and fitted So Danca Claudia in an E fit ! Much better line to the foot and comfort, a mouldable shoe she can use and smiles from ear to ear. We would like to build on our next step to the DELIRIUM Costume side of our business. We did have some interesting pointe fittings this morning. Pointe wearers but new to us. Millie who attends Tring had spilt water on her pointe shoes but still wore them to a summer intensive at White Lodge ! The box area of the shoes were completely ruined. Millie wanted a more comfortable shoe that would last the rigours of Tring and Merlet Lisa fitted that perfectly. Lauren dances at WDA and really hadn't been happy with her pointe shoes and had even been back to get them rechecked but was told her feet were the wrong shape for pointe and she should expect some pain !! 😳 We could instantly see that the shoes were too tight, they were pushing her skin really hard against the drawstrings, the vamp was too high and there was no way she could go through the metatarsal area, they were also slipping off the back she was told to sew a loop of elastic on the backs to hold them on. We started again, Lauren actually has lovely feet and will do well in her new Grishko Starpointe. Another lovely day of pointe fittings, 3 to prepare for Tuesday. We had Olivia from CAD with So Danca Toshie, Aiofe from WDA with Merlet Lisa and Abi from Novo school of Dance in Loughborough with RC32. Olivia was new to pointe, Aiofe and Abi were pointe wearers but new to us. We do love fitting our dancers and seeing the smiles on their faces 😁 We pride ourselves on our knowledge and passion, we fit the person not the brand although after years of trying different brands of pointe shoes we do stock awesome pointe shoes ! We have had some more lovely pointe fittings today and again our Danielle did a sterling job. Olivia came to us for her 4th pair but first time to us. Her old shoes don't look too bad do they at first glance but - The shank on her right foot especially had swivel, the lower shanks under the box was soft because the shank was too hard where her arch was you might be able to see the flatter line. This made the front of her foot knuckle through the box. The swivel made her feet look off centre. Olivia actually had lovely feet but her old shoes did nothing for her, after our thorough assessment Danielle chose a flex shank in the RClass which will work with her. While it's a bit quieter we have taken the opportunity to start the next side to our DELIRIUM costumes. 3 made up this week, a catsuit with contrast lycra edged with gems suitable for perhaps acro, a lovely little black mystique and sequin gold costume edged with gold gems halter neck and our own fuller apron skirt slightly longer at the back for tap jazz modern. Finally a beautiful aqua lyrical dress with waterfall skirt, drape mesh back with gems on the straps, applique to front and a lot of gems which really sparkle in the light. 3, 2 piece costumes to do for next week which will add to our off the peg costumes. Abbie and Evie travelled well over an hour today for their first pointe fitting after we were recommended. Danielle found the perfect pointe shoes for them after our usual thorough assessment, 2 hours in total assessing, advising, explaining, fitting, minute details to make sure both were happy, then more explaining on care of shoes and preparation ( mums chose us to do the prep ) They are travelling back to see us Friday so we can adjust the ribbons and for a final check, all part of our service. What a lovely week we have had with pointe fittings, not finished yet as we have some more tomorrow. We had the lovely Meah all the way from Jamaica and as its very difficult to get pointe shoes in Jamaica she came to us for a fitting ( she did order straight through the factory at Gaynor Minden without sucess). Danielle fitted RClass. We had Lily looking lovely again in RClass. Molly came to us with Bloch European Balance but her toes were hurting I fitted Grishko Smartpointe. Connie had a pair of Grishko Dreampointe in HF shank. Lastly today it was a surprise for Phoebe who dances at CAD and who didn't know until her mum brought her in, her face was a picture ! We are a small business trying very hard to compete in an online orientated world and online businesses targeting dance schools direct. One day when you need us for items you can't get hold of or you need pointe fittings you will have to travel to find a dancewear retail shop still open ! They look quite simple but there are quite a few components to these and a lot of setting of straps, the mesh over the bodice which are overlaid with lace, the apron skirt gathered on one side and longer on the other which is sewn to the long back skirt which is gathered. We have had some lovely pointe fittings this week thank you to every one who has booked in with us. One of our fittings today was Maddie Gray who dances with Charnwood and travelled down to us with her old pointe shoes fitted elsewhere. Maddie was fitted with a strong shank which was not benefitting her at all and infact made her knuckle through the front of the shoe. The shank was breaking too low, they were not working correct muscles which is why we see that 'awkward' line through the ankle. After an assessment we moved maddie into a shoe which will work 'with her' give her the correct alignment and support. The difference is plain to see. I have been meaning to make this leotard up for a while since designing the pattern so while I'm waiting for fabrics here it is. Microfibre fabric with full front lining, flocked stretch mesh to front and back panels. Lovely v cut to back. Higher leg line. Team it with a skirt or have a skirt made for a lyrical dance ! Introducing our new DELIRIUM COSTUMES partner who will be dealing with all admin, payments, invoices, emails and costings LISA SOUTHERN Lisa will also be my right hand for sewing too. I will be designing, making the patterns, ordering fabrics,cutting, sewing, as well as running the shop. Due to the amount of costume enquiries we have and forward bookings all enquiries will receive an email or message with strict terms for deposits and payment. PLEASE NOTE: For troupe costumes we will send out a measuring form or if wished students can come into the shop to be measured. These costumes will be based on age/ clothing size. If bespoke individual costumes are required for each person there will be a surcharge. For ALL costume enquiries whether you direct message or send an email etc we will send a reply stipulating our terms if these terms are not met you will lose your slot ! This is to ensure we are not overbooked that we have a fair work/ home life and we can spend as much time as we need on each costume. ALL ALTERATIONS TO COSTUMES WILL BE QUOTED SEPARATELY DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF WORK NEEDED. That was a whole day opening out our pointe shoe area. Parents and grandparents can view in comfort and we can get round all our shoes plus I needed to make some room ( watch this space 😉) not enough yet but a bit of swapping about should do it. OUR NEXT SUPER POINTE SHOE FITTING DAY WILL BE MAY 8TH. This is the King's coronation bank holiday Monday so for those of you who will be off school, college etc this would be a perfect day to come and be fitted for your pointe shoes. We will be open between 10am and 4pm so book now ! This is just pictures of 12 out of 16 of the lovely girls from Spotlight Stage School that we have fitted over the last few days. We have some more booked in which will bring it to around the 20 + mark. Most for first fittings some new to us but pointe wearers. It was lovely to fit, Ava, Abbie, Daisy, Eryn, Rachel, Maci, Inayah, Olivia, Scarlet, Lillie, Jade, Gerline, Iman, Ayana, Mischa, Carla so far. And we are nearly there 😳 In the last 5 weeks we have made: 11 old fashioned Housecoats and head scarves with curlers out of a beautiful Rose and Hubble poplin fabric, 10 lyrical dresses altered and handkerchief skirts added, A modern costume, 3 tap dresses copied and made, A yellow male unitard and leotard to match existing leotards out of grey ombre fabric, Numerous alterations on costumes including hems, net, down sizing, a tutu repaired and tacked, necklines altered etc too many to count, A lycra gold sequin shirt made and matching cummerbund 2 red contemporary ballet dresses, 38 dalmatian costumes with tutu net skirt, stuffed tail, matching headband and ears, choker, 16 Black & Gold catsuits gold sequin stretch fabric and black stretch velour. Oh and not much sleep !! All for Allesley School of Dance who have their show on the 6th April. We had the lovely Ava in today for her first pointe fitting. Ava dances at Spotlight and although Ava is petite with size 13 feet she has a lovely extrinsic line to the foot a good core and strong technique.
